How to Use the Simple Future in Spanish

Use the future tense to talk about actions that will happen later.

Overview

The futuro simple is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future.

  • Mañana estudiaré. – Tomorrow I will study.
  • Comeremos juntos. – We will eat together.
  • Vivirán en otra ciudad. – They will live in another city.

Structure

The future tense is formed by adding endings to the infinitive form of the verb.

Do not remove -ar, -er, or -ir.

  • hablar + é → hablaré – I will speak.
  • comer + emos → comeremos – We will eat.
  • vivir + án → vivirán – They will live.

Using the future tense

Use the future tense to talk about actions that will happen later. Depending on the context, it can also express plans, intentions, or promises.

  • Yo trabajaré mañana. – I will work tomorrow.
  • Ella viajará a México. – She will travel to Mexico.
  • Nosotros compraremos una casa. – We will buy a house.
  • Te llamaré mañana. – I will call you tomorrow.
  • No llegaré tarde. – I will not arrive late.

Sentence forms

Afirmativa

  • Yo trabajaré mañana. – I will work tomorrow.
  • Nosotros compraremos una casa. – We will buy a house.

Negativa

  • Yo no estudiaré hoy. – I will not study today.
  • Ellos no visitarán el museo. – They will not visit the museum.

Preguntas

  • ¿Hablarás con ella? – Will you talk to her?
