Pronombres interrogativos: qué, quién, cuándo, dónde

Overview

Use interrogative pronouns to ask what, who, when, where, why, which, and how much. They can appear in direct questions and indirect questions.

• ¿Qué estudias? → What do you study?
• ¿Dónde vives? → Where do you live?

Formas

• qué → what
• quién / quiénes → who
• cuándo → when
• dónde → where
• por qué → why
• cuál / cuáles → which / what
• cuánto / cuánta / cuántos / cuántas → how much / how many

Notas

Question words carry accent marks in direct and indirect questions.

Quién and cuál change for singular and plural. Cuánto changes for gender and number.

Cómo/cuándo lo usamos

Ask For Basic Information

Use qué, quién, cuándo, and dónde to ask for the most common details.

• ¿Qué necesitas? → What do you need?
• ¿Quién es tu profesor? → Who is your teacher?

Ask For Reasons And Choices

Use por qué for reasons and cuál or cuáles for choices.

• ¿Por qué estudias español? → Why do you study Spanish?
• ¿Cuál prefieres? → Which one do you prefer?

Ask About Amounts

Use cuánto forms to ask about quantity.

• ¿Cuánto cuesta? → How much does it cost?
• ¿Cuántas clases tienes? → How many classes do you have?

Oraciones.

Afirmativas

• Sé dónde vive Ana. → I know where Ana lives.
• Entiendo qué necesitas. → I understand what you need.
• Sabemos cuándo empieza la clase. → We know when the class starts.
• Ella pregunta cuánto cuesta. → She asks how much it costs.

Negativas

• No sé quién viene. → I do not know who is coming.
• No entiendo por qué esperas. → I do not understand why you are waiting.
• No sabemos cuál es correcto. → We do not know which one is correct.
• No recuerdo dónde está el banco. → I do not remember where the bank is.

Forma de pregunta

• ¿Qué estudias? → What do you study?
• ¿Quién es tu amiga? → Who is your friend?
• ¿Cuándo trabajas? → When do you work?
• ¿Dónde está la estación? → Where is the station?
